January fishing for gag grouper!
With water temperatures in the mid 60’s now is a great time to target Hogfish and Gag grouper. We’ve also seen a good amount of Kingfish still hanging around our area before their migration north. On the half days we are catching good numbers of keeper Hogfish along with some mangrove snapper and Kingfish. Bottom fishing with light tackle has been the key lately as the water has been extremely clear. The 3/4 day charters are seeing good numbers of Gag Grouper, Hogfish and Kingfish. The Kings have been coming off live bait and once a school of Kingfish is located it’s non stop action! Most of these fish are in the 15-20 pound range. Our full day charters have been good with plenty of Red and Gag grouper along with big Amberjacks. This bite should continue to be good offshore. The nearshore, 3 hour kids charters have also been non stop action with Flounder, Grunts, seabass, spanish mackerel and small grouper.
