As we head into our fall fishing season, we have been focusing a lot on Grouper fishing. The Clearwater offshore waters are home to several different Grouper species. The most prevalent are Red, Gag, Scamp and of course the Goliath Grouper. All of these have very different regulations. In addition to different fishing techniques, these fish have slightly different habitat needs and preferences as well.
We tend to target red grouper in waters between 80-120 feet deep over a mixture of hard bottom and coral reef. The Gag grouper are typically congregated over bigger structures, such as a rock ledge.
Goliath Grouper need a very large structure to call home, this usually means a large rock ledge or shipwreck. When targeting the giants, heavy tackle is a must to pull them away from structure.
This is a great time of year to enjoy the fabulous Grouper fishing in Florida and will be for the next several months. There are also plenty of other fish to target during this time such as, Hogfish, Mangrove Snapper, Kingfish, obia and more.
On our inshore charters anglers can expect steady Readfis, Trout, Spanish Mackerel and more.
