With cold front after cold front blasting it’s way through the Clearwater Florida area, the water temperature has plummeted. The Kingfish have migrated south of us now to find warmer water and bait schools. The good news is that the Gag Grouper and Hogfish bite has been phenomenal! Both of these species love colder water and tend to move shallower, making them a great fish to target on any length charter. This type of fishing also allows us to catch mangrove snapper and other delicious fish as by catch. December has always been a favorite time to head offshore for us, especially with both Grouper and Hogfish having open season during the entire month. Of course, the mid 70’s air temperature that we’ve been enjoying lately in Clearwater makes for a great day of the water for whatever kind of fishing you prefer.
