One of my favorite times to fish in Florida is now. There is an abundance of target species and some really good fishing relatively close to the coast. Kingfish are of course the main target right now as they provide drag screaming action that is hard to beat, especially on light tackle. Spanish Mackerel are also mixed in and it’s only a matter of throwing a smaller bait in the spread to hook up. It’s not just kings though, the Mangrove Snapper bite has been solid along with some nice Red Grouper starting to fire up and eat. The weather continues a gradual warming pattern and Cobia should be the next species to migrate through our area. Overall it’s action packed fishing right now and should remain good into summer.
