The grouper fishing has been excellent in the Clearwater area lately. Both Gags and Red grouper have been biting good and should continue as the water temperates drop heading into winter. The best way to target these fish is bottom fishing use a combination of both dead and live baits. We like to target areas of hard bottom and depth changes, such as ledges or other topographical changes. In addition to grouper, the Kingfish migration is in full swing and we are having good charters catching plenty of them. The Kings tend to prefer certain water temperature and clarity allowing for them to ambush bait schools offshore. Finding this combination of variables has been leading to good amounts and quality fish being caught on our deep sea charters.
On the inshore side of the operating, our guide has been finding good numbers of Redfish and Trout on the calm waters inside Tampa Bay and St. Joseph sound. Light tackle makes for a fun way to fight these saltwater fish and also excellent for kids and families looking to enjoy a day on the water. The Snook will begin moving into backwaters with the cold fronts starting to move through Florida. Targeting them in canals and back water estuaries is an absolute blast, as these hard fighting fish become very aggressive and acrobatic once hooked. The weather is perfect, let’s go fishing!
