As we approach 2021 the usual colder weather has made it’s way down to the Clearwater Florida area. This is a welcome change to the usually warm weather. The fishing also gets a nice kick start, as the Gag Grouper and Hogfish tend to move in closer to the coast line making for shorter runs offshore to productive areas. The fishing is good year round there is no doubt about that, but the change in tactics is always fun.
Our deep sea fishing charters have been targeting Gag Grouper, Hogfish and Mangrove Snapper for the anglers that want to keep fish. By using a variety of live and dead bait, and different techniques, we are able to maximize the action for these species. As we move into January the Gag Grouper season will end and we will most certainly begin to target Red Grouper and will continue to look for the tasty hogfish. For the anglers who aren’t interested in keeping fish, we look to the hardest fighting and one of the most aggressive wreck dwellers, the Amberjack. Those of you who have had the opportunity to catch these bruisers know exactly what I mean! Although catch and release only until May, these are big fish and great to battle.
The inshore fishing has also been hot with Redfish, Snook and Trout as the main targets, but this is also an excellent time to catch Flounder and Sheephead. We expect both inshore and offshore to keep producing with the cooler water temperatures.
As always we are run family and kid friendly Clearwater fishing charters year round and love nothing more than showing you a memorable day on the water!
