This time of year is a favorite among local captains, as both the shallow waters and the deep sea waters are coming to life after winter. Not that the winter fishing is bad, but there is a larger variety of fish to target as the water warms up. To this point, our offshore boat has been finding good numbers of Kingfish with a few Blackfin Tuna mixed in feeding on large schools of bait. The bottom fishing has also been on with Red Grouper, mangrove Snapper, Lane Snapper, Hogfish all biting good. The wreck fishing has just started to show some life with Sharks and Barracudas relatively active. Goliath Grouper should also be waking upon a bit if that’s your cup of tea.
Our inshore boat has been absolutely crushing the Redfish with double digit releases almost daily. The Snook have also been chewing with some big overshot fish showing up as of late. Last but not least, the speckled Trout have been on the jumbo size the past couple weeks, which is great to see.
Cobia will be migrating through our area, mostly in late May and June, and predominately on the offshore wrecks and reefs.
