With a typical Florida weather pattern of high temperatures, this August has started out no different than any other. The fishing has been good as is typical this time of year on our deep sea charters and inshore charters. It is important to play the tides on the inshore trips more than ever as the fish will bite better on the higher water.
Offshore we are still targeting Red Snapper, Grouper, Mangrove Snapper and other in season fish. These are longer trips of 8 hours or more. The shorter trips are targeting Mangrove Snapper, White Grunts and a few grouper, mostly throwbacks in the shallower waters. Although Amberjack are out of season we can still target them for catch and release fun.
Our Inshore charters, we are still targeting Redfish, Trout and Snook, although the Snook bite has been hit or miss depending on the current. The Redfish have been biting good on the high tides and have been good size with most over the slot limit to keep. There has been some keeper Mangrove Snapper, although smaller, they have been big enough and enough of them for a nice catch and cook dinner at a local Clearwater Beach restaurant.
