While the fishing offshore of Clearwater Florida is excellent for Grouper, Snapper and much more, it isn’t well known for it’s Mahi fishing. This time of year however, we usually see schools of them while on our Red Snapper trips. By Florida standards, these aren’t big Mahi but typically decent keepers for fish tacos. Last week on almost every one of our deep sea trips from 8-10 hours we enjoyed great bottom fishing and the bonus Mahi school showing up. Another nice bonus in the mix can be a sailfish or Blackfin tuna, which are both welcomed sights while offshore.
The bottom fishing will continue to be good in waters past 110′ deep for Red Snapper and Grouper. The shallower waters inside of that will continue to hold fish but on the smaller side. We will continue to run farther offshore as the water temperatures rise, allowing us opportunities at bigger fish.
