One of the best times of the year to fishing our area is the month of December. The deep sea and inshore fishing is excellent in between cold fronts as the fish are actively feeding with every pressure drop. The winds can be a factor but usually both boats can run during the week at some point.
The offshore charters have been enjoying a very good Gag Grouper bite, in fact it’s one of the best we’ve seen in recent years. Big live bait is our go to for the bigger fish and we always have more than we need in the live well. Along with the phenomenal grouper bite, the Hogfish have been very much cooperating. These will mail eat shrimp and crabs so we load up on the biggest we can find top target the keeper sized hogs. There is also a good variety of other species while targeting grouper and hogs, such as, Mangrove Snapper, Yellowtail, Grunts, Porgies and more.
On the inshore charters, you can expect the Redfish and Sheepshead bite to be good, especially while dock fishing. The falling tides have been producing good numbers of sheepshead which can be kept for a nice fish fry. The Redfish, Trout and Snook are still closed for harvest, and remain a fun catch and release species.
Our charter boats run year round in Clearwater and is a perfect family activity while visiting the area. There’s nothing better than a day on the water with friends and family and our private charters are sure to make memories. As always we are kid friendly and are happy to help with any questions you have about the area in general or fishing. From the Captain and crew at FishEye Sportfishing, Have a great Holiday!!
