It has been a great summer of fishing in Clearwater so far this season. The Permit have been biting good on our 3/4 and full day charters on the offshore wrecks. These fish are prized for their hard fight and god eating firm white meat. Regarded as a trophy fish, Permit can be difficult to target and conditions have to be good to fish for them.
The Red Snapper bite has been solid as well, the bigger fish have moved to deeper offshore waters, making the 10 hour or 12 hour the best charter to find the big ones. Along with them , you can expect Red Grouper, Gag Grouper, Mangrove and Lane snapper, as well as various other delicious fish. Often times, Mahi and Blackfin Tuna can also be caught while fishing these deep and productive areas in the Gulf of Mexico. These charters the main focus is to load up on the tastiest fish that are in season.
On our 6 hour Shark and Goliath Grouper charters, we’ve been experiencing an extraordinary bite. Black tips and bulls have been the most common catches, with some Hammerheads and Tigers in the mix. The Goliaths have been on fire as well, the average size of these fish has been 200-250 pounds with a few bigger fish here and there. Barracuda and Bonita are also on the target list while on these trips and are a fun addition and exciting to catch on light tackle. Although not good eating, there are few other fish in the ocean that fight as hard as the above mentioned species.
