With warmer temperatures hitting the Tampa Bay and Clearwater areas of Florida the fishing has picked up considerably. The boats have been running charters non stop and the action has been phenomenal. Large schools of baitfish have begun migrating south from the north Florida waters triggering the fish to start feeding heavily. The deep sea boat and inshore boat have been enjoying steady action.
Lets start with the inshore fishing. Schools of large Redfish have been active in the shallows and our very own Captain Marlin has been keyed in on them. Live bait has been the ticket lately, whether it’s pilchards or shrimp doesn’t seem to matter too much. The Trout bite has been consistent but will likely slow down with the warming water temperatures. Snook have been showing up in good numbers and fishing for them will only get better as we head into summer. There is also steady action to be had just off the beaches with Spanish Mackerel and Kingfish.
Moving on to the deep sea fishing, on the half day charters, Captain Brandon has been putting his customers on some beautiful Hogfish and Mangrove Snapper. The Kingfish bite will continue to get better into late March and April. On the Full day charters the Red Grouper fishing has been great. The Amberjack have been extremely fired up, this is catch and release right now and a lot of fun. Heading into April we expect to see an increase of species to target as many offshore fish are starting their migration through the Clearwater and west central Florida.
